Ecology is the scientific study of the distribution and abundance of living organisms and how the distribution and abundance are affected by interactions between the organisms and their environment. The environment of an organism includes both physical properties, which can be described as the sum of local abiotic factors such as insolation (sunlight), climate, and geology, as well as the other organisms that share its habitat. The term oekologie was coined in 1866 by the German biologist Ernst Haeckel the word is derived from the Greek οικος (oikos, "household") and λόγος (logos, "study"); therefore "ecology" means the "study of the household ". The word "ecology" is often used in common parlance as a synonym for the natural environment or environmentalism. Likewise "ecologic" or "ecological" is often taken in the sense of environmentally friendly.

In all this, one notes first the poverty or narrowness of mans outlook, motivated as he is by a desire to possess things rather than to relate them to the truth, and lacking that disinterested, unselfish and aesthetic attitude that is born of wonder in the presence of being and of the beauty which enables one to see in visible things the message of the invisible God who created them. At this important time, humankind has an opportunity to reflect on our 100,000 year journey to this moment of truth, the truth that compels us to lay open our conscious relationship to the Earth and all Life. These Covenants honor and celebrate the diversity of all life and rejoice in the wonder and miracle of each individual form. They have an obligation to consider the good of persons and not only the increase of profits. This reflection will encompass deep probing questions of our very elemental nature. Be as committed to their instructions as an artist is to her object or a yogi to his position. The achievements of biological, psychological and social science will help man to understand better the riches of his own being. The
